MDC 12" (304 mm) Conflat (CF) Flange is manufactured from 316LN austenitic stainless steel, providing very low magnetic permeability for ultra-high vacuum (UHV) applications. The steel is air-melted into ingots and then remelted in an Electroflux Refining (EFR) unit, ensuring superior homogeneity and minimal inclusions. This process eliminates brittle oxide stringers, improves ductility and impact resistance, and guarantees consistent mechanical properties. The austenitic grade 316LN used by MDC has nominally nil ferrite content, making it suitable for the most demanding UHV and high-performance vacuum systems.
