MDC Fused Silica Viewports are engineered for high and ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) applications requiring optical clarity, UV transmission, and thermal stability. Constructed using synthetic fused silica, 304 stainless steel, and vacuum-compatible braze alloys, these viewports are ideal for systems demanding minimal fluorescence, low outgassing, and consistent optical performance.

Fused silica is a polycrystalline, isotropic material, ensuring uniform physical, thermal, dielectric, and optical properties in all directions. MDC offers three material grades:

Base UV (≥80%/cm @185nm)
DUV-200 (Suprasil-1® equivalent)
EUV-185 (Excimer UV, ≥85%/cm @185nm)

Infrared variants with transmission up to 141.7 in (3600 mm) and OH content <1 ppm are available by request. MDC standard optical surface finish is 40-20 scratch-dig, with 20-10 finishes available for deep-UV applications.

Industry Applications

Fused silica viewports are ideal for semiconductor processing, UV laser optics, surface science, mass spectrometry, and thin-film deposition systems. Their excellent UV transmission, resistance to thermal shock, and durability in vacuum make them essential in high-precision optical and analytical instrumentation.
